Cherry Nut Fudge - cooking recipe

Ingredients
    2 c. granulated sugar
    dash of salt
    1/2 c. chopped nuts
    1 c. heavy cream
    1/8 tsp. salt
    1/2 c. chopped maraschino cherries
Preparation
    Bring sugar, cream and dash of salt to a boil over medium heat, stirring constantly.
    Add the salt.
    Cook until mixture reaches soft ball stage.
    Remove from heat; let stand until almost cold.
    Beat mixture until thick and creamy.
    Cover with a damp cloth; let stand 30 minutes.
    Add vanilla, nuts and cherries; work in with hands.
    Press into a shallow, waxed paper lined pan. Makes 1 pound.
