Batter-Fried Vegetables - cooking recipe

Ingredients
    3/4 c. cornstarch
    1/4 c. unsifted all-purpose flour
    1 tsp. baking powder
    1/2 tsp. salt
    1/4 tsp. pepper
    1/2 c. water
    1 egg slightly beaten
    4 c. cut up onions or vegetables
    oil for frying
Preparation
    In bowl, stir together first 5 ingredients.
    Stir in water and egg until smooth.
    Pour oil into large skillet to depth of 1/2-inch.
    Heat over medium heat.
    Dip vegetables into batter. Carefully add vegetables to hot oil, a few pieces at a time.
    Fry, turning once, two or three minutes or until golden brown and crisp.
    Drain on paper towels.
