Ingredients

2 1/2 c. flour
3/4 tsp. salt
1/2 tsp. soda
1/2 c. butter, softened
1/2 c. vegetable shortening
1 c. sugar
1 tsp. vanilla
1 egg
2 Tbsp. milk

Preparation

Sift flour, salt and soda; set aside.
Cream butter and shortening.
Gradually add sugar, beating until light and fluffy. Beat in vanilla and egg.
Add sifted dry ingredients and beat until smooth.
Blend in milk.
Drop dough by teaspoonfuls 2 inches apart onto greased cookie sheet.
Flatten with bottom of greased glass that has been dipped into sugar.
Bake in preheated oven at 400\u00b0 for 12 minutes or until edges are lightly browned.
Cool on wire rack.
Yields 5 1/2 dozen.
