Grandma'S Pickles - cooking recipe

Ingredients
    2 gal. cucumbers
    2 c. lime
    4 oz. alum
    2 1/2 qt. white vinegar
    2 1/2 c. water
    14 c. sugar
    1 tsp. celery seed
    3 tsp. pickling spice
Preparation
    Use large cucumbers. Peel and slice lengthwise. Place cucumbers in large container. Cover with water and add lime. Let stand 24 hours. Rinse thoroughly. Cover cucumbers with fresh water. Add alum and let stand 6 hours. Rinse and let stand in fresh water for 6 hours.
