Pear Preserves - cooking recipe

Ingredients
    6 c. pears (about 16)
    3 c. sugar
    1 slice lemon
    water
Preparation
    Peel and slice 6 cups pears and cover with water.
    Add sugar and lemon; cook slowly for 4 hours (or until fruit is light colored).
    Makes 2 to 3 pints.
