Gingerbread - cooking recipe

Ingredients
    1/2 c. butter or shortening
    1 egg, beaten
    1 1/2 tsp. soda
    1 tsp. ginger
    1/2 tsp. salt
    1 c. hot water
    1/2 c. granulated sugar
    2 1/2 c. plain flour, sifted
    1 tsp. cinnamon
    1/2 tsp. cloves
    1 c. molasses
Preparation
    Cream shortening and sugar; add beaten egg.
    Measure and sift dry ingredients.
    Combine molasses and hot water.
    Add dry ingredients alternately with liquid, a small amount at a time, and beat after each addition until smooth.
    Bake in well greased and floured 9 x 9 x 2-inch pan at 350\u00b0 for 45 minutes.
