Layered Vegetable Salad - cooking recipe

Ingredients
    head of lettuce, torn into bite size pieces
    1/2 c. chopped onion
    1/2 c. chopped celery
    5 oz. can water chestnuts, drained
    10 oz. frozen green peas
    1 1/2 c. mayonnaise
    1 Tbsp. sugar
    2 tomatoes, sliced
    4 boiled eggs, sliced
    6 slices bacon, cooked and crumbled
    grated cheese
Preparation
    Make a layer of lettuce.
    Mix onion and celery and sprinkle over lettuce.
    Layer water chestnuts, then peas.
    Spread mayonnaise evenly over top and sprinkle with sugar.
    Refrigerate overnight.
    The next day, layer remaining ingredients over mayonnaise.
