Ingredients

3 large eggs, separated
1 c. sugar
4 1/2 c. regular all-purpose flour
5 tsp. baking powder
1 tsp. salt
1 c. milk
1 tsp. vanilla
3 Tbsp. melted shortening
powdered sugar (optional)
Preparation

Beat egg whites until stiff and dry, then beat egg yolks one at a time.
Beat in sugar gradually.
Sift the flour and baking powder again.
Add alternately with milk, beating well after each addition.
Add flavoring and the melted shortening.
Turn dough onto lightly floured surface.
Roll out to 1/2-inch thickness. Cut in doughnuts and fry in 380\u00b0 oil.
