Ingredients

1/2 c. shortening, butter or margarine
1 c. sugar
1 egg
2 tsp. vanilla
1 3/4 c. all-purpose flour
1/2 tsp. baking soda
1/4 tsp. salt
1/2 c. chopped pecans
Preparation

Cream butter; gradually add sugar, mix well (use mixer).
Add egg and vanilla; beat well.
Combine flour, soda and salt; add to creamed mixture, beat well.
Stir in pecans.
Shape dough into two 12-inch rolls, wrap in wax paper, chill or freeze at least 2 hours.
Unwrap rolls, and cut into 1/4-inch slices; place in ungreased cookie sheets.
Bake at 350\u00b0 for 10 to 12 minutes.
Cool on rack.
Yields 7 dozen.
