Nut Cake - cooking recipe

Ingredients
    6 eggs, separated
    2 sticks butter
    4 c. flour
    1 1/2 lb. cherries (part green, part red)
    pinch of salt
    2 c. sugar
    1 tsp. soda
    1 qt. chopped pecans
    1 whole nutmeg, grated
    3/4 c. grape juice
    wine or whiskey
Preparation
    Combine egg yolks, sugar, butter and salt.
    Take half of flour and mix with cherries and pecans.
    Sift soda and nutmeg with the remaining flour.
    Add this to creamed mixture; alternating flour with liquid.
    Add cherries and nuts.
    Beat egg whites stiff and fold into creamed mixture.
    Bake at 250\u00b0 for 4 hours.
    The top will be cracked because of the heavy mixture.
