Connecticut Beef Supper - cooking recipe

Ingredients
    2 Tbsp. shortening or oil
    2 large, sliced onions
    4 or 5 sliced potatoes
    1 c. sour cream
    1 tsp. salt
    1 c. shredded Cheddar cheese
    2 lb. stew beef (1-inch cubes)
    1 c. water
    1 (10 3/4 oz.) can cream of mushroom soup
    1 1/4 c. milk
    1/4 tsp. pepper
    1 1/4 c. crushed corn flakes or Wheaties
Preparation
    Brown meat and onions in shortening until browned and onions are soft.
    Add water and heat to boiling.
    Reduce heat and simmer for 50 minutes.
