Beef Stew - cooking recipe

Ingredients
    2 lb. beef (round)
    1/2 tsp. salt
    1/8 tsp. pepper
    2 Tbsp. flour
    1/2 c. carrots, cut in cubes
    1/2 c. potatoes, cut in cubes
    1 bay leaf
    2 Tbsp. shortening
Preparation
    Cut beef into inch cubes; roll in flour and fry in shortening, browning both sides.
    Put meat in saucepan; add boiling water to half cover meat.
    Add bay leaf and seasonings; cover and simmer slowly for 2 hours until meat is tender.
    Add vegetables; cook until done.
    More seasonings or other vegetables may be added.
