Date-Applesauce Loaf - cooking recipe

Ingredients
    1/2 c. butter or margarine
    3/4 c. firmly packed brown sugar
    1 egg
    1 tsp. vanilla
    2 c. sifted all-purpose flour
    1 tsp. baking soda
    1/4 tsp. salt
    1 tsp. each: cinnamon and cloves
    1 can applesauce
    1 c. chopped nuts
    1 1/2 c. chopped dates
Preparation
    Cream butter until light and fluffy.
    Gradually beat in sugar. Add egg and vanilla.
    Beat well.
    Sift together flour, baking soda, salt, cinnamon and cloves.
    Measure out 1/4 cup and reserve. Add remaining flour mixture alternating with applesauce to the creamed mixture, beginning and ending with dry ingredients.
    Toss reserved flour mixture with nuts and dates.
    Fold into the batter, mixing well.
    Turn into greased and floured pan.
    Bake in preheated 350\u00b0 oven for 1 hour or until done.
    Frost with chocolate icing or use cream cheese mixed with orange marmalade.
