Laura Ingalls Wilder'S Gingerbread - cooking recipe

Ingredients
    1/2 c. brown sugar
    1/2 c. lard or shortening
    1/2 c. molasses
    2 tsp. baking soda
    1 c. boiling water
    3 c. flour
    1 tsp. each of the following spices: ginger, cinnamon, allspice, nutmeg and cloves
    1/2 tsp. salt
    2 well-beaten eggs
Preparation
    Blend brown sugar with lard or shortening and molasses and baking soda blended in boiling water.
    (Be sure cup is full of water after foam is run off into cake mixture.)
