Summer Salad - cooking recipe

Ingredients
    1 head lettuce, torn
    1 bell pepper, chopped
    1 onion (red is best), chopped
    1 c. celery, sliced
    1 pkg. frozen garden peas
    1 c. bacon bits
    1 can water chestnuts
    1 c. grated cheese
    1 c. sour cream
    1 c. sugar
    1 c. salad dressing
Preparation
    Layer first eight ingredients as listed in a large bowl. Combine last three items and pour over cheese.
    Cover tightly and set in refrigerator overnight.
    Stir first before serving.
