Sauerbraten (Beef) - cooking recipe

Ingredients
    4 lb. boneless chuck roast
    4 cloves garlic, pressed
    5 whole cloves
    salt and pepper
    1 c. onion, sliced thin
    2 Tbsp. salad oil
    1 1/2 c. red wine vinegar
    3 bay leaves
    3 Tbsp. flour
    2 c. water
    1/4 c. sugar
Preparation
    Sprinkle roast with salt and pepper; place in large deep glass bowl.
    Combine vinegar and water in a small saucepan; bring to a boil.
    Add remaining ingredients.
    Pour over meat; cover with plastic wrap.
    Marinate overnight or up to 2 days, turning frequently.
