Sugar Crisp Tea Macaroons - cooking recipe

Ingredients
    1 c. shortening
    1 c. brown sugar
    1 c. sugar
    1/2 tsp. salt
    1/2 tsp. almond extract
    2 unbeaten eggs
    1/2 c. chopped nuts (walnuts or pecans)
    1 c. coconut
    1 1/4 c. flour, sifted
    1 tsp. baking soda
    3 c. rolled oats
Preparation
    Combine and thoroughly mix the first 6 ingredients (shortening, sugars, salt, almond extract, eggs).
    Stir in nuts and coconut. Sift the flour and soda and add to liquid mixture.
    Stir in oats. Shape dough into 3/4-inch balls.
    Roll in green or red sugar. Place on greased sheets.
    Bake at 350\u00b0 for 12 minutes to a delicate brown.
    Makes 10 to 11 dozen.
