Strawberry Preserves Deluxe - cooking recipe

Ingredients
    1 1/2 qt. capped, firm, red, ripe strawberries
    5 c. sugar
    1/3 c. lemon juice
Preparation
    Combine strawberries and sugar; let stand 3 to 4 hours.
    Bring mixture slowly to a boil, stirring occasionally, until sugar dissolves.
    Add lemon juice.
    Cook rapidly until berries are clear and syrup is thick, about 15 minutes.
    Pour into shallow pan; let stand, uncovered, 24 hours in a cool place.
    Shake pan occasionally to distribute berries through syrup.
    Pour into hot jars, leaving 1/4-inch headspace.
    Adjust caps.
    Process 20 minutes in boiling water bath.
    Yields about 4 half pints.
