Layered Lettuce Salad - cooking recipe

Ingredients
    1 head lettuce, cut up or shredded
    1 1/2 c. celery, chopped
    1 bunch green onions, finely chopped
    1 can sliced water chestnuts, drained
    1 green pepper, chopped
    1 (10 oz.) pkg. frozen petite peas
    2 c. mayonnaise
    2 tsp. sugar
    1/2 c. grated Parmesan cheese
    1 lb. bacon, crisp and crumbled
    1 hard-cooked egg, chopped
Preparation
    Layer the first 6 ingredients in 3-inch deep 9 x 13-inch dish; do not mix.
    Spread mayonnaise and sugar mixture over top. Sprinkle with Parmesan cheese.
    Refrigerate 24 hours.
    Garnish with crumbled bacon and chopped, hard-cooked egg, if desired.
