Ingredients

2 c. sugar
4 Tbsp. cocoa
1 stick butter
1 c. water
1/2 c. shortening or margarine
1/2 c. buttermilk
2 eggs
1 tsp. salt (optional)
1 tsp. soda
1 tsp. vanilla

Preparation

Mix and sift first 2 ingredients.
Mix and bring to a boil next 3 ingredients; pour over dry ingredients.
Mix and add last 5 ingredients.
Bake at 350\u00b0 for 20 to 30 minutes in a rectangular pan.
