Banana Nut Layer Cake - cooking recipe

Ingredients
    1/2 c. shortening
    2 c. sugar
    1 egg + 1 egg whites (save yolk for filling)
    1 c. buttermilk
    1 c. bananas, mashed
    2 c. all-purpose flour
    1 tsp. baking powder
    1 tsp. salt
    1 tsp. vanilla
    1/2 c. chopped nuts
Preparation
    In a mixing bowl, cream together shortening and sugar.
    Beat in egg and egg white. Add buttermilk and bananas; mix well. Combine flour, baking powder and salt; stir into creamed mixture. Add vanilla and nuts. Pour into 2 greased and floured 9-inch cake pans. Bake at 350\u00b0 for 35 minutes or until done. Cool in pans 10 minutes before removing to wire rack. Cool completely, then add filling to bottom layer only.
