Ingredients

1 c. shortening
1 c. brown sugar
1 c. granulated sugar
2 eggs
1 tsp. vanilla
1 1/2 c. flour
1 tsp. salt
1 tsp. soda
3 c. quick oatmeal
1/2 c. chopped nuts
1 c. chopped dates or date pieces
Preparation

Thoroughly cream the sugars and shortening.
Add the beaten eggs and vanilla.
Beat well.
Add flour, salt and soda.
Add oatmeal, nuts and dates.
Form in long, individual rolls (about 18 inches long) on Saran Wrap; wrap tightly.
Chill.
Slice 1/2 inch thick.
Bake on ungreased cookie sheet at 350\u00b0 for 10 minutes. Makes 5 dozen.
