Sweet Cucumber Pickles - cooking recipe

Ingredients
    2 gal. cucumbers
    3 c. salt, dissolved in boiling water
    3 heaping Tbsp. alum
    1 gal vinegar
    1 1/4 boxes pickling spices
    7 1/2 lb. sugar
Preparation
    First Day:
    Place cucumbers in a stone jar.
    Dissolve salt in boiling water and pour over the cucumbers.
    Let stand for 24 hours.
