Dill Pickles - cooking recipe

Ingredients
    cucumbers (enough to fill 5 qt. jars)
    1 pinch alum
    2 or 3 pieces fresh dill
    1 clove garlic (optional)
    2 qt. water
    1 qt. red vinegar
    1 c. salt
Preparation
    Bring to a boil the water, vinegar and salt.
    Pour over cucumbers packed in jars with dill and alum.
    Seal.
