Heavenly Dream Cake - cooking recipe

Ingredients
    1 butter or plain cake mix
    1 (20 oz.) can crushed pineapple (do not drain)
    1 c. white sugar
    1 large vanilla instant pudding mix
    2 or 3 bananas, sliced
    1 c. chopped nuts (pecans or almonds)
    1 pkg. frozen coconut
    1/2 c. maraschino cherries, chopped
    1 oz. carton Cool Whip, divided in 1/2
Preparation
    Bake cake mix according to directions in a 9 x 13-inch cake pan.
    Boil sugar and pineapple for 5 minutes.
    Pour the mixture over hot baked cake that has been pierced with a fork.
    Let cake and pineapple mixture cool.
    Mix dry pudding mixture with 1/2 Cool Whip and pour over cake.
    Add bananas and cover with remaining Cool Whip.
    Sprinkle coconut over bananas and top with chopped nuts and cherries.
