Onion Rings - cooking recipe

Ingredients
    4 medium onions, sliced 1/4-inch thick
    cold water
    3/4 c. flour
    1 egg, beaten
    2/3 c. milk
    1 tsp. sugar
    1/2 tsp. salt
    1 Tbsp. shortening, melted and cooled
    oil for frying
Preparation
    Separate onion slices into rings; soak in cold water for 30 minutes.
    Meanwhile, in a small bowl, beat flour, egg, milk, sugar, salt and shortening together.
    Drain onions and pat dry. With fork, dip rings into batter.
    Preheat oil to 375\u00b0.
    Fry in at least 1-inch of oil a few at a time for 2 to 3 minutes or until golden brown.
    Drain on paper towels.
    Keep warm in oven while frying remaining rings.
