Christmas Hardtack - cooking recipe

Ingredients
    2 c. white sugar
    1/2 c. plus 1 Tbsp. light corn syrup
    1/2 c. hot water
    flavoring oils (cinnamon, peppermint, orange, etc.)
    food coloring (red, green, etc.)
Preparation
    Mix sugar, syrup and water.
    Cook to 278\u00b0.
    Add flavoring (1/4 teaspoon) and coloring (1/4 teaspoon).
    Pour immediately onto a buttered marble (or other smooth, heat absorbing marble surface). Use a knife and cut into 3/4-inch lengths, then snip into bite size pieces with kitchen scissors.
    Butter hands to work with candy.
