Apple Ring Fritters - cooking recipe

Ingredients
    1 c. flour
    2 Tbsp. sugar
    3/4 c. milk
    1 1/2 tsp. baking powder
    1/2 tsp. salt
    1 beaten egg
    4 to 5 cooking apples
Preparation
    Sift together dry ingredients.
    Add milk and egg.
    Beat well.
    Peel and core apples.
    Slice into rings, about 1/4-inch thick.
    Dip apple rings into batter and drop into skillet with about 1/2-inch melted shortening.
    Fry until golden brown on both sides.
    Drain.
    Sprinkle with sugar and cinnamon or a dot of currant jelly in center.
    Makes about 12 to 16 fritters.
