Date Pinwheels - cooking recipe

Ingredients
    1 lb. dates, cut up
    1/2 c. water
    1 c. walnuts
    1/2 c. oleo or butter
    1/2 c. brown sugar
    1/2 c. granulated sugar
    1 egg
    1/2 tsp. vanilla
    2 c. sifted flour
    1/2 tsp. soda
    1/2 tsp. salt
Preparation
    Cook dates, water and walnuts, stirring constantly until thick.
    Combine oleo and sugars and cream.
    Add egg and beat well. Add vanilla.
    Sift dry ingredients into cream mixture and mix until smooth.
    Chill.
    Divide and roll to about 1/4-inch.
    Spread date mixture evenly over dough and roll like jelly roll.
    Wrap in foil and put in freezer until needed, then slice and bake.
