Mother Roberds Syrup Cake - cooking recipe

Ingredients
    1 egg
    1/4 c. sugar
    1/3 c. melted shortening
    1 c. syrup (Steens)
    1 tsp. soda
    2 c. flour
    1/3 c. hot water
    1 tsp. vanilla, chopped pecans or raisins (add your favorite of 1 of these to batter)
Preparation
    Beat together egg, sugar and shortening.
    Add syrup.
    Sift together soda and salt.
    Add gradually, beating until smooth, then add 1/3 cup hot water.
    Bake at 325\u00b0 until set to touch.
    Can be one large cake or cupcakes.
    May be iced, if desired.
