Ingredients

2 1/2 c. sugar
3/4 c. butter
4 eggs
1 c. buttermilk
1 tsp. soda
2 c. fig preserves
3 c. flour
1 tsp. nutmeg
1 tsp. cloves
1 tsp. cinnamon
1 tsp. vanilla
1 c. nuts
Preparation

Cream sugar and butter; add well beaten eggs.
Gradually add dry ingredients, sifted together.
Add preserves, vanilla and nuts.
Bake in loaf pan for 1 hour at 300\u00b0.
Frost with icing, if desired.
