Toffee Cookie Squares - cooking recipe

Ingredients

1/2 c. butter or margarine
1/2 c. shortening
1 c. brown sugar
1 egg yolk
1 tsp. vanilla
1/2 tsp. salt
2 c. sifted flour
1 (6 oz.) pkg. semi-sweet chocolate bits
chopped nuts

Preparation

Mix all ingredients, except chocolate bits and nuts, and put in large pan.
Mixture is crumbly.
Bake in slow oven at 325\u00b0 for 15 to 20 minutes.
Then melt chocolate bits and pour over top while cookies are still warm.
Sprinkle with chopped nuts.
Do not cut until cold.
