Doughnuts - cooking recipe

Ingredients
    4 c. sifted flour
    1 tsp. salt
    3 tsp. baking powder
    1 tsp. nutmeg
    1 c. sugar
    1 egg
    2 c. milk
    2 Tbsp. shortening
    1 tsp. vanilla
Preparation
    Sift together flour, salt, baking powder and nutmeg; add sugar. Mix to a light soft dough with beaten egg, milk, melted shortening and vanilla.
    Turn onto floured board; roll 1/2-inch thick.
    Cut with doughnut cutter and cook about 3 minutes in deep, hot fat (360\u00b0 to 375\u00b0), turning as they rise to top of fat.
    Drain on paper and sprinkle with powdered sugar.
    Makes 3 dozen.
