Great Texas Hash - cooking recipe

Ingredients
    2 c. minced onions
    3 Tbsp. shortening
    1 lb. ground beef
    1 c. diced green peppers
    1 qt. canned tomatoes
    3/4 c. uncooked rice
    1 tsp. chili powder
    1 tsp. salt
    1/4 tsp. pepper
Preparation
    Brown onions in shortening.
    Add ground beef and stir constantly until browned.
    Add green peppers, tomatoes, washed rice and seasonings.
    Cook until rice is tender, about 30 to 45 minutes.
    Serves 6 to 8.
