Spanish Rice - cooking recipe

Ingredients
    1 1/2 c. long cooking rice
    2 Tbsp. cooking oil
    1 small onion, finely chopped
    1/2 medium bell pepper, finely chopped
    1 medium tomato, chopped
    3 c. water
    1 tsp. salt
    1/2 tsp. black pepper
    1 Tbsp. garlic powder
    1/2 c. medium salsa (optional)
Preparation
    Heat oil over medium heat.
    Add rice and lightly brown.
    Add spices and vegetables.
    Cook over medium heat, stirring frequently until onion is translucent.
    Add water and salsa (if desired). Bring to a boil.
    Lower heat to low.
    Cover and simmer until all moisture is absorbed and rice is tender.
    Serves 4 to 6.
