Bread And Butter Pickles - cooking recipe

Ingredients
    20 finely sliced cucumbers
    6 to 8 thinly sliced onions
    1/2 c. canning salt
    4 c. sugar
    3 c. vinegar
    1 1/2 tsp. turmeric
    1/2 tsp. ground cloves
    1 tsp. celery seed
    2 Tbsp. mustard seed
Preparation
    Make several layers of cukes, onions, salt and ice.
    Let stand for 3 hours.
    Drain well.
    Bring remaining ingredients to a boil and remove from heat.
    Add cucumbers and onions to syrup and return to heat until scalding hot, but not boiling.
    Seal in hot jars and process in hot water bath 10 to 15 minutes.
