Sourdough Bread - cooking recipe

Ingredients
    1 pkg. active dry yeast
    1 1/2 c. warm water
    1 c. Starter Batter
    2 tsp. salt
    2 tsp. sugar
    5 1/2 to 6 c. sifted all-purpose flour
    1/2 tsp. soda
Preparation
    To Make Starter Batter:
    Dissolve 1 package active dry yeast in 1/2 cup warm water.
    Stir in 2 cups lukewarm water, 2 cups sifted all-purpose flour and 1 tablespoon sugar.
    Beat until smooth.
    Cover with cheesecloth.
    Let stand at room temperature 5 to 10 days, stirring 2 or 3 times a day.
    (Starter will have a \"yeasty\" not sour smell.)
    Cover and refrigerate the starter until ready to make bread.
