Waldorf Astoria Red Cake - cooking recipe
Ingredients

1/2 c. shortening
1/4 c. or 2 oz. red food coloring
2 tsp. cocoa
1 tsp. salt
1 tsp. soda
1 1/2 c. sugar
1 tsp. vanilla
1 c. buttermilk
2 1/4 c. cake flour
1 Tbsp. vinegar
Preparation

Sift together salt and flour.
Make paste of coloring and cocoa.
Cream shortening and sugar.
Add buttermilk and flour mixture.
Add vanilla.
Add soda to vinegar in measuring cup, it foams, then blend into cake mixture.
Bake in three 8-inch pans (greased) at 350\u00b0 for 30 minutes.
Frost with frosting.
