Busy Day Vegetable Soup - cooking recipe

Ingredients
    1 lb. ground beef
    2 c. sliced raw potatoes
    2 medium carrots, sliced
    1 medium onion, chopped
    1/2 c. diced celery
    1/4 c. uncooked rice
    2 c. (8 oz. size) tomato sauce
    1 (10 oz.) pkg. frozen mixed vegetables
    1 c. chopped cabbage (optional)
    1 Tbsp. salt (or to taste)
    1/4 tsp. black pepper
    1 Tbsp. sugar
    dash of m.s.g. (optional)
    1 clove garlic
    6 c. water
Preparation
    Brown meat in a large pan; add remaining ingredients.
    Cover. Simmer slowly, 1 to 1 1/2 hours.
    Makes 8 servings.
