Buttermilk Sopaipillas - cooking recipe

Ingredients
    2 c. flour
    2 tsp. baking powder
    1 tsp. salt
    2 tsp. shortening
    1/2 c. buttermilk
    1/2 c. water
    oil (for deep frying)
    honey
Preparation
    Mix flour, baking powder and salt.
    Cut in shortening with pastry blender.
    Add buttermilk, then enough water to moisten all ingredients and form a dough that can be handled.
    Roll dough out on floured surface until 1/2-inch thick.
    Cut dough in 4-inch triangles.
    Fry in deep oil heated to 400\u00b0.
    Press sopaipillas under oil until they puff.
    Cook until brown.
    Drain on paper towel.
    Serve hot with honey.
    Makes 2 dozen.
