Grandma Chamberlin'S Boston Brown Bread - cooking recipe

Ingredients
    1 lb. dates, cut up
    2 tsp. baking soda
    1 1/2 c. sugar
    4 Tbsp. butter
    2 eggs
    1 c. chopped pecans
    1 tsp. vanilla
    4 c. flour
    1 tsp. salt
Preparation
    Boil 2 cups of water; pour over dates.
    Set aside to cool. In a large bowl, cream the butter, sugar and eggs.
    Add date mixture, nuts, vanilla, flour and baking soda.
    Mix well.
    Pour into 5 well-greased cans (16 ounce vet cans), filling half full. Bake at 300\u00b0 for 1 hour and 15 minutes.
    Remove from cans while still warm.
    Cool completely.
    Slice thin.
    Spread with butter or cream cheese.
