German Meatballs "1940'S"(Serves 4) - cooking recipe
Ingredients

1 lb. lean ground beef
1 egg, beaten
3/4 c. (2 1/2 slices) soft bread crumbs
1 3/4 c. water, divided
1/4 c. chopped onion
1/2 tsp. salt
dash of pepper
2 beef bouillon cubes
1/3 c. brown sugar, packed
1/4 c. raisins
2 1/2 tsp. lemon juice
1/2 c. coarsely ground ginger snap cookies (9 or 10)

Preparation

Combine beef, eggs, crumbs, 1/4 cup water, onions, salt and pepper.
Shape into 1 1/2-inch balls.
Set aside.
In a large skillet, bring remaining water to a boil.
Add bouillon cubes, brown sugar, raisins, lemon juice and ginger snaps.
Stir until thoroughly combined.
Add meat balls to skillet; simmer, uncovered, for 20 minutes or until meat is no longer pink.
Stir occasionally.
Serve over noodles.
