Pralines - cooking recipe

Ingredients
    2 c. sugar
    1 tsp. baking soda
    1 c. buttermilk
    3/4 c. butter
    1 1/2 tsp. vanilla
    1 Tbsp. bourbon
    1 1/2 c. chopped pecans
Preparation
    In a heavy large saucepan, cook sugar, milk and butter to a soft-ball stage (240\u00b0); stir frequently while cooking. When mixture reaches soft-ball stage, remove from heat and beat until mixture lightens in color and thickens, approximately 5 minutes. Stir in vanilla, bourbon and pecans. Drop by tablespoons on waxed paper. Yields 3 dozen small pralines.
