Ingredients

3 c. packed brown sugar
1 (5 oz.) can evaporated milk (not condensed)
1/2 stick butter (soft)
1 c. chopped walnuts
1 tsp. vanilla extract
1 tsp. maple extract
Preparation

Line an 8-inch square baking pan with foil.
Lightly grease foil.
In heavy saucepan, combine sugar, butter and milk.
Bring to a boil over medium heat, stirring constantly.
Then boil without stirring 3 minutes or if using a candy thermometer registers 235\u00b0 (soft ball stage).
Remove from heat and let stand in pan without stirring until warm, 110\u00b0.
Beat in walnuts, vanilla and maple extract until well blended.
Spread mixture evenly in baking pan.
Refrigerate at least 8 hours, until very firm.
Lift foil by ends onto cutting board.
Cut into 1-inch squares.
