Portuguese Kidney Bean Soup - cooking recipe
Ingredients

1 can red kidney beans (1 lb. works)
1 cup diced onion
1 clove garlic, cut in half
2 Tbsp. bacon fat
4 medium potatoes, diced
1 can tomato paste
4 or 5 bay leaves
1 tsp. allspice
salt and pepper
Preparation

Put beans in a large pan with 4 cups water. Saut onion and garlic in bacon fat in another pan. Add to pot and add potatoes, tomato paste, bay leaves, allspice, salt and pepper. Simmer 45 minutes to an hour, adding more liquid if necessary; it should be thick. This should serve four. You improvise sometimes by adding corn, ground meat, anything that sounds good.
