Meaty Minestrone - cooking recipe

Ingredients
    1 1/2 lb. stew beef (1-inch pieces)
    3/4 c. dry kidney beans
    7 c. water
    1 (16 oz.) can tomatoes
    1/2 cabbage, cut
    1 carrot, sliced
    1 onion, sliced
    1 clove garlic
    1 Tbsp. salt
    2 tsp. basil
    1/4 tsp. pepper
    1/3 c. elbow macaroni
Preparation
    Wash kidney beans and place in Dutch oven.
    Add water; bring to boil.
    Cover and cook 2 minutes.
    Remove from heat.
    Let stand 1 hour.
    Drain tomatoes; add liquid to beans.
    Add meat, cabbage, carrot, onion, garlic, salt, pepper and basil to beans.
    Cover and simmer 1 1/2 hours.
    Cut reserved tomatoes into pieces.
    Add tomatoes and macaroni to soup and simmer 15 minutes.
    Serve with Parmesan cheese.
