Grandma'S Sugar Cookies - cooking recipe

Ingredients
    1 1/2 c. white sugar
    1 1/2 c. brown sugar
    1 1/2 c. shortening (Crisco)
    1 Tbsp. soda in 1 c. boiling water
    7 c. sifted flour
    3 eggs
    2 tsp. baking powder
    1 tsp. salt
    1 tsp. vanilla
Preparation
    Cream sugar and
    shortening.
    Beat in eggs.
    Add alternately dry ingredients,
    hot
    water
    and
    soda.
    Add
    vanilla. Chill in refrigerator
    overnight
    if possible.
    Roll out about 1/4-inch thick and sprinkle with sugar.
    Bake at 425\u00b0 for 5 to 7 minutes (watch that
    bottoms
    do
    not burn).
    Store in tight container. Makes 5 to 7 dozen average cookies.
