Quick Sweet Pickles - cooking recipe

Ingredients
    6 qt. prepared vegetables*
    3 cloves garlic
    1/4 c. granulated pickling salt
    cracked ice
    5 c. sugar
    2 Tbsp. mustard
    1 1/2 tsp. celery seed
    3 c. vinegar
Preparation
    Partially
    precook vegetables, if desired.
    (Juice will be clearer
    if carrots and celery are precooked in salt water for
    a minute
    or two).
    Spear garlic on wooden pick for easy removal. In
    a large bowl or crock combine vegetables, garlic and
    salt. Cover with cracked ice; mix thoroughly.
    Let stand 3 hours.
