Texas Beef Stew - cooking recipe

Ingredients
    1 1/4 lbs. beef stew meat, cut into 1-inch pieces
    1-2 Tbsp. cooking oil, optional
    1/4 c. chopped onion
    1 1/2 tsp. garlic powder
    1/4 tsp. pepper
    1 c. water
    1 can (16 oz.) tomatoes with liquid, cut up
    1 1/2 tsp. ground cumin
    1 tsp. salt
Preparation
    In a large kettle or Dutch oven, brown beef, adding oil if desired and drain.
    Add onion, garlic powder, pepper and water and bring to a boil.
    Reduce heat; cover and simmer for 45 minutes or until meat is almost tender.
    Add tomatoes, cumin, and salt and return to a boil.
    Reduce heat and cover and simmer for 15-20 minutes until meat is tender (cook until tomatoes and onions are thick).
    Yield: 4 servings (1 quart).
