Broccoli Chowder Soup(Serves 4) - cooking recipe

Ingredients
    1 lb. broccoli
    3 c. milk
    1/4 tsp. salt
    1/2 c. half and half or milk
    2 Tbsp. butter or margarine
    1 c. shredded Swiss or mild Cheddar cheese (about 4 oz.)
    1 1/2 c. chicken broth
    1 c. cubed cooked ham
    1/8 tsp. black pepper
Preparation
    Trim the leaves and coarse stems from the broccoli and cut the stems and florets into bite size pieces.
    Meanwhile, bring the chicken broth to a boil in a 3-quart saucepan.
    Add the broccoli and cook, uncovered, for 5 minutes, or until the broccoli is crisp-tender.
    Using a slotted spoon, remove the broccoli from the saucepan, chop coarsely and set aside.
